Hi!

I have neglected my blog! I feel terribly guilty but what can i do? I have had assignment due dates creeping up on me and pretty much exploding in my face. I pretty much feel like this..

What can I do though, everything I do in this course is so utterly time consuming. Technical drawings, illustrations, sewing, report/essay writing etc. I wish I could actually blog more about my uni stuff, and perhaps more fashion related topics however my blog’s name in itself is pretty limiting. It is, obviously a nails blog, but fashion is such a huge part of my life at the moment but i’m not sure if you my readers, would be interested in what i have to say about fashion and my work in this area since it’s consuming me whole at the moment. Would you only be interested in my nail work, tutorials? Or are you open to the fashion side of things in my life right now? ( i do have quite some awesome things to share in that area, but like i said, is it too much of a mish mash?)

Tell me? What you’d be interested in seeing in this space? I would really really like to hear some suggestions. Write to me :) Clarahnails@gmail.com or post some comments!

p.s I have been uploading some images on my tumblr account as well, so that made me procrastinate even more from blogging here. :P Check it out at www.clarahnails.tumblr.com if you want to look at my nail work.

Tumblr users rejoice as I’ve decided to use my Tumblr account to keep it from rotting away! It’ll be a great and quick way for me to easily share images when I don’t have much to write about. A much better way for everyone else to share and enjoy my work!

I now announce my Tumblr account has officially started this Easter! Easter with Easter nails heehee. Here it is: http://clarahnails.tumblr.com/

Follow away my friends! Happy Easter!

Last week, I had a lovely dinner with my colleagues at Tsumiki. We visited this lovely Japanese cafe that was on the Swinburne campus in Hawthorn called Triceangle cafe. It was the same place that sponsored the food for our Tsumiki X Clara H Nails blogger event (I know i keep talking about it but never posted on it. Next post!) The food was lovely, very carefully prepared with a lot of attention to detail. The chef, who is a very traditional looking Japanese man (By traditional looking, i mean i can imagine him decked out in samurai outfit and looking the part) who was trained in French cuisine in France under a Michelin star awarded chef!

Despite all the glitz and glamour, awards and Michelin stars, he runs a humble little cafe that makes beautiful food. So Melburnians! Be sure to visit this lovely little place for a nice dinner date out with your friends or partner! You can visit his website here at http://www.triceangle.com.au/

Here are the pictures of the delicious food from Saturday night! Salivate away!!!

Corn Cappuccino. Really surprised me, wasn’t expecting corn in my cappuccino, or pepper on my milk froth. Nevertheless, YUM.

IMG_1857

This was a duck foie croquette. Was very hungry at this point so taste wasn’t so important. Haha

IMG_1862

This was a prawn and sea bream fillet dish. Prawn was a little bit overcooked in my opinion but what do I know! Flavors were very interesting in this one, chopped up broccoli, olives and capers nestled the prawn, was my favorite taste on the plate.

IMG_1871

This was a sou vide chicken breast covered in crushed and powdered hazelnuts. The light tangy flavor from the grapefruit beurre blanc sauce balanced the entire dish out. Well I’m certainly not a chicken breast person. Have to pretty much force it down my throat if you really have to. But this was actually nice. I guess the sou vide helped keep the chicken tender and moist rather than dry and powdery like I know it to be. Like eating chalk paste, yuck. But this was pretty good.

IMG_1873

The kid in me. Instead of appreciating a beautiful pinot noir, I ordered a calpico. In grape.

IMG_1874

This one was interesting. It was a kangaroo ragout with home-made cacao fettuccine. The kangaroo was a tad too gamey for me. Definitely prefer beef.

IMG_1875

This was my FAVORITE. I know it doesn’t look like a dessert, but boy, the taste was DELICIOUS. The base was a lentil shiruko (a japanese sweet soup usually made out of azuki, red beans) accompanied by tapioca matcha balls, home-made chocolate ice-cream and a topped off with sesame biscotti and random grape halves.

IMG_1876

Yumm. Tonight, Pete made me prawn chilli beans, cheese, mashed up avocado and nachos for dinner. It was pretty epic. I’m terribly spoilt.

Next post, Tsumiki X Clara H Nails beauty bloggers event!

Hi lovelies!

How has everyone been? Is it a busy period of time for you? It certainly is for me! Never-ending projects and assessments out to kill me.

So anyway, recently I was part of an event at Tsumiki (the salon i’m working with right now if you don’t already know) :p It was a beauty bloggers’ event organized to promote the salon services as well as my specialized nail services to the famed beauty bloggers in Melbourne! I will do an elaborate post on that one (I am making a mental note of how many back dated posts i owe my blog. haha) It will come. I promise. Anyhooooo, I got to know this beyond lovely blogger, Violet at www.violetlebeaux.com who mainly blogs and makes videos about little beauty/fashion/craft DIY projects! I got to take care of her rather battle-worn nails with a fresh new set of acrylics and nail art surrounding the theme of her mascot, Bergamot, a rabbit that apparently used to work in a teashop. How cute is that?? I’ll let pictures do the talking for now.

Bergamot!!! How cute is this lop-sided eared bunny! I can’t believe Violet made this little plushie herself, and even hand-stitched her little V logo on Bergamot’s bunny foot!

Last but not least, lovely Violet whom i’m meeting up with this Thursday for brunch! We are discussing collaboration ideas and brainstorming what kind of tutorials we can film. So do tell us what you’d like to see/DIY on your own! Nails(I’m sure some of you out there would like to know my secrets!!) , hair (i have a secret hair styling talent, i do a mean hairstyle), i can SEW. Let us know your curiosities, it’ll help us plan our videos out better!

That’s all for tonight folks, excuse me while i go curl up in a ball and recuperate from this super tough week. I have the next 2 weeks off from school but still have tons of work stacked on my head and shoulders, knees and toes.

I will be right back really soon with more updates!

Hello my peeps! I haven’t been on for about a week. :( No internet = No life. But luckily, internet is coming on TUESDAY WHOOPPEEEEEE!!! (right now i’m just making use of the wifi at my partner’s workplace, insert <opportunist>, as i’ve been doing the last 4 weeks since having moved from Prahran into Melbourne city.

Just gonna update you with a random snippets of my life, just to prove that my life doesn’t revolve around JUST NAILS AND SCHOOLWORK HMPHF. haha i kid. Readers have been growing curious about my life in Melbourne, wondering what/how i’m doing here, writing to me asking me questions about where i am, how i am, what i’m doing, confirming if that’s ‘the guy’ i’m seeing. haha. I’ve always been pretty private about myself on my blog, always uncertain about how much of my life i should bare in a public portal But i shall bare, little by little about the random things i do as a fellow human being.

So just this morning, I was very kindly invited by my sexy boyfriend (haha. HUMOR YA’LL, HUMOR.) to breakfast at his workplace. Those who don’t already know, my guy is a chef, and we’ve moved into the building directly above his workplace. Very convenient as he literally can rock up to work 1 min prior to starting and most recently he walked down in socks. Yes, socks. Moving on! I had a very nice breakfast prepared by him as i sat by the bar sipping on my piccolo flipping through my March issue of ViVI, (for my international readers, it’s a rad japanese magazine i love to read) hence earning the title ‘lady of leisure’ because i spend all his money and live like i have nothing better to do in life. Hey, life is short! You got a boyfriend who cooks for a living and earns money, you drive him into slavery! Relationship 101 from Clara H. I’m just a really poor student but want to live the high life and make him buy expensive gifts for me all the time. OKAY I KID OKAY. WE’RE VERY NICE TO EACH OTHER AND WE LOVE EACH OTHER VERY MUCH AND DO THINGS FOR EACH OTHER ALL THE TIME THANKS. He’s 100% supportive of me and my studies so he supports me in whatever way possible. :)

In other random updates, because i’m always late to catch on techy stuff like instagram and other fun apps that others use 3 years before i discover them, I’ve downloaded a deco app on my iphone and i’ve been having so much fun with it! Haha. You will tell from all my doctored photos. :p Photos of my brekkie, coffee and my clippings from my ‘newspaper’.

IMG_1726

These are some snippets from ViVi, i’m so into these pastel shades these days, lilac, mint green, baby blues and pinks. These images are part of my inspirational mood board for my brief at Uni where we’re meant to design a range of Luxe Sportswear and my chosen palette is none other than eh-hem.. Le pastel palette. I will try to update you guys on the progression of my projects, when things are more concrete, just for the fun of it and hopefully will inspire you. I leave you with these pics for now. ;)

Vintage half moon manicures are going to come back in a huge, huge way.

My very gold, very glittery watermelon nails, grasping on to my piccolo for dear life.

Finally i leave you with an illustration of, ‘how to firm up your boobies’. heehee. Boobies.

See you soon!

Hello everyone on this lovely (well kinda) Sunday afternoon! Recently the salon has just had a bunch of magazine people come in to take some photos of our work, both hair and nails. We set up for the afternoon with Taka-san doing hair for our beautiful model Ligaya Hoops and of course me, doing nails. This is a video of the hair portion of the photoshoot, MY VERY FIRST VIDEO EDIT! I hope you all enjoy it and stay patient while i finish editing the part 2 of the nails portion.

Stay cool kids.

Has it already been a week?! Good golly gosh me. Time really flies! Here’s the Nails in Melbourne part 3 and also the final part of my photo roll of nails i’ve done during the time i was in Singapore. Virtual life sucks right now as i’m relying on an internet connection from a bar. Yes, i’m blogging from a bar and have been with the past posts, since the efficiency of telecommunication companies here are… :X Anyhow, give me props for dedication!

I’ve been trying to readjust to starting uni again after a good long 3 month break. Really tough I must say juggling uni and my business. 4 days at uni, 2 days at the salon, 7 days of continual, ongoing work on personal and work projects. PLUS i’ve only just moved and yet to completely unpack. I die.

There’s so much i want to share with everyone! Have been up to a lot of naughty, having magazine peeps coming over to spy on my work at the salon, setting up photo shoots for Tsumiki + Clara H Nails projects, recently also hosting a beauty bloggers event at Tsumiki where all the ladies in the beauty blogosphere received a lot of love for their hair and nails, with the latest and most exclusive to us in hair and my specialized nail services of course! All that will come in later posts as i collate the photos and videos for you special people!

With Uni, I’ve just received my project brief and i’m really excited to share with all with you as i progress through my design concepts and inspirations! All in the next few posts so keep checking back!

I am now VERY BLOATED from some super awesome indian food i had for dinner. Garlic naan and butter chicken mmmmmmm. I’ll leave you to savor these lovely photos while i potter off back home to pack my very, very, very untidy storeroom study. :X

Much Love!!!!

Clara H

I’m back!! And because you’ve all been so good and supportive, I have a mini part 2 post for you. Well, part 2 because the pictures i’m about to show you deserve a post of their own. And also because it’s all about Chanel inspired nails! These sets were all done from scratch and designed on the spot as my special girls INSISTED on getting the double Cs on their nails. So here’s their pretty pretty nails.

I’m actually really proud of my Singaporean girls who are really adventurous in terms of nail art. Don’t get me wrong, Melburnians love their nail art too, but practicality comes first to mind for them, and also, there aren’t many places that can provide such specialized nail art services, probably at the very most a leopard/zebra/polka dot print here and there. I certainly hope through my work they’d get to know that they too can have awesome and super long lasting nails in Melbourne!

Oooooh very pretty yes? Hope you enjoyed this rather short but pretty post! I’ll be back soon with more!

Hello all!!!

I know it’s been an impossibly long time since i’ve blogged, but much has happened in my life and i’ll try and feed you guys with updates bit by bit. I was in Singapore for the past month for all the Chinese New Year festivities, catching up with friends and family. Unfortunately while i was there, my grandmother passed away hence my trip was extended. So yes, my life was pretty fully loaded. Shortly after returning to Melbourne (which was about a week ago) I had to move out of my apartment as my lease was up and LUCKILY, my partner managed to find an amazing apartment in the CBD.

We’re still in the process of moving into this apartment with the unpacking and whatnot. Yes, so this is my life for the past 6 weeks in a nutshell. I would be a lot more detailed but there are too many stories and serves me right for leaving the blogging till now.

So as a little treat and apology to appease my loyal readers who constantly check back to this blog with lacking updates, here is a roll of lovely nail photos if i may say so myself. :p Some sets were done in Melbourne, some in Singapore. Tumblr users, you’re gonna love this. I’m too busy to watermark these images at the moment so, remember to credit!!

I will post photos of our apartment once it’s slightly neater and done up. I love that it’s right in the middle of the city, that it’s walkable distance to uni, i love that i can go out for supper and food and find anything i like, that i can get anything i want and can’t get outside the city. Most of all I love that its more than twice the size of my old apartment! Fully carpeted with a beautiful balcony where we plan to have a mini herb garden (when we find the time haha).

I’ll leave you with a little picture of myself in my unfinished bedroom.

Okay i hope this will keep you happy for a little bit while i prepare Part 2 of Nails in Melbourne!!!

Love,

Clara H

Something i did a little while back! Been too lazy and unmotivated to update anything here ever since i’ve been on uni break. :P Recently, I’ve had a very nice reader write in suggesting that I should post up my work on tumblr because tumblr users have been using my images and not crediting back me. (Thanks for the brilliant suggestion!) As much as i’d love to start a tumblr account, i’m not EXACTLY sure i have the commitment level to update 2 blogs at one go. Also, i’m not really sure if I should make this a personal blog, updating with more personal events and making the tumblr blog nails only. Tell me what you think? At the moment, i shall just stick to updating this blog with work and fun things i get up to, things that inspire me as an artist.

So a note to Tumblr users, until i decide what to do with Tumblr myself,  please do not rip my images without proper crediting. It’s not fair and it makes me very sad for all the hard work i put into designing my pieces. And if you’d like to see more works and keep me inspired, the only way to do that is to credit my work properly and let me know that you like and enjoy them!

Tribal

Much love!
